Of mice and men - the film

Thursday, we watched the film «Of mice and men», based on the novel. To point out what I think was the main happenings in the film, I would have to pick when they finally got to the ranch. New, interesting characters came in to the history, and the story got more exciting. Another main point in the film was when George told Slim what happened in Weed. That was always a mystery. The last, and probably the most shocking scene, was at the ending, when George shot Lenny. The other guys at the ranch were after Lenny, because of what he did to Curley’s wife. I think George shot him because it was the best for Lenny. He didn’t see it coming, and probably he would have been killed by the other guys anyway.

John Steinbeck – the author of the book.
John Steinbeck (1902-1968) is the author of the book. He was born in Salinas Valley, California. The novella “Of mice and men” was published in 1937. This is one of his most famous works, next to the novel “The grapes of wrath”, a Nobel Prize winner from 1939. In 1968, Steinbeck died from a heart attack.

USA in the 1930 - The Great Depression
The book is suppose to represent life in the 30’s. This period is called “the great depression”. It was a worldwide economic downturn that started around 1930. It’s said to be the largest and most important economic depression in modern history. It tells us how far the world’s economy can fall.

Of mice and men

Over the last few weeks, we have been reading a book cald «Of mice and men». We are renting this book from the library, and doing some exercises connected to the book. The book is about two men, George and Lenny. They go together from ranch to ranch, looking for work. The small and quick George Milton and the huge, mentally retarded Lennie Small are travelling together. The book gives us a insight of what life was like, living on the ranch in the 1930's. It's written by John Steinbeck, born 1902 in Salinas, California.

I've red two chapters, and just started on the third. I think it's an interesting book, and I like the way the two friends never looses their faith of fulfilling their dream. Their dream is about getting their own place.
