John Steinbeck – the author of the book.
John Steinbeck (1902-1968) is the author of the book. He was born in Salinas Valley, California. The novella “Of mice and men” was published in 1937. This is one of his most famous works, next to the novel “The grapes of wrath”, a Nobel Prize winner from 1939. In 1968, Steinbeck died from a heart attack.
USA in the 1930 - The Great Depression
The book is suppose to represent life in the 30’s. This period is called “the great depression”. It was a worldwide economic downturn that started around 1930. It’s said to be the largest and most important economic depression in modern history. It tells us how far the world’s economy can fall.
